TULSA, Okla. – Virginia men’s tennis first-year Ryan Shane (Falls Church, Va.) remained unbeaten this fall as he advanced from pre-qualifying to qualifying at the ITA All-American Championships. Shane won a pair of matches Sunday on the final day of pre-qualifying at the Case Tennis Center.

Shane, the No. 3 seed, opened the day with a 6-1, 6-3 win over Mesa Mei of Xavier. In the afternoon he downed Alen Salibasic of Drake 7-6(4), 4-6, 6-3 in the final round of pre-qualifying.

Harrison Richmond (Pawleys Island, S.C.) also reached the qualifying round. He won his first match on Sunday, defeating Justin Carter of UMBC 6-4, 7-6, but fell in the final round of pre-qualifying to James McKie of Drake 6-3, 6-4. However, he was selected to advance as a lucky loser.

Shane and Richmond will be two of five Cavaliers in the qualifying draw of the tournament, which begins Monday. They join Justin Shane (Falls Church, Va.), Julen Uriguen (Guatemala City, Guatemala) and Mac Styslinger (Birmingham, Ala.).

Those five players will look to advance from qualifying into the main draw, which begins Thursday. Two Cavaliers, Jarmere Jenkins (College Park, Ga.) and Alex Domijan (Wesley Chapel, Fla.) gained direct entry into the main draw.
