TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – The No. 9 Virginia women’s soccer team continues its three-game roadtrip Sunday with a visit to top-ranked Florida State. Game time at the Seminole Soccer Complex is 1 p.m., and the game will be broadcast online by ESPN3.
The Cavaliers are 11-3-1 overall and 4-2-1 in the ACC after a 3-0 win at Miami on Thursday night. Caroline Miller (Rockville, Md.) scored twice and Kate Norbo (Roanoke, Va.) added a goal as Virginia posted the shutout victory in Coral Gables. With a win or tie on Sunday, the Cavaliers would clinch their 19th consecutive year of going .500 or better in ACC play.
Florida State (13-0, 6-0 ACC) is the only team in the nation to remain undefeated and untied this season. The Seminoles, who topped Virginia Tech 1-0 on Thursday, has not allowed a goal in six conference games this year. Florida State has won its last 12 games at the Seminole Soccer Complex, dating back to last season.
The Cavaliers lead the all-time series 16-2-4, including a 6-1-2 mark in Tallahassee. Virginia had never lost to Florida State before the Seminoles took two of the three meetings last year. The Cavaliers won the regular season matchup 4-3 in overtime at Klöckner Stadium. The Seminoles won both postseason meetings, topping the Cavaliers 2-1 in the ACC semifinals in Cary, N.C., and 3-0 in a NCAA quarterfinal match in Tallahassee. Sunday’s game is the fifth consecutive meeting between the teams with both squads ranked in the top 10.
Virginia is 1-18-1 all-time against No. 1 ranked opponents. Of those 20 previous meetings with top-ranked foes, 18 have come against North Carolina. The last time Virginia played an opponent ranked No. 1 nationally was in 2010 when the Cavaliers topped Boston College 3-2 in overtime at Klöckner Stadium.
Following Sunday’s game, Virginia will have a week off before concluding their three-game road trip on Oct. 21 at Virginia Tech. The Cavaliers conclude the regular season by hosting Boston College on Oct. 25.
