CORAL GABLES, Fla.—The Virginia volleyball team was defeated by No. 24 Miami, 25-20, 25-21, 25-18, Sunday afternoon (Oct. 28) at the Knight Sports Complex in Coral Gables, Fla.

The Hurricanes (20-3, 11-1 ACC) hit .287 with 47 kills, while the Cavaliers (7-17, 1-12 ACC) only hit 29 kills and hit .168.

Freshman Natalie Bausback (Carlsbad, Calif.) led UVa with 15 kills and a .286 hitting percentage, while junior Emily Rottman (Santa Barbara, Calif.) led the team with nine digs. Sophomore Tori Janowski (Sterling, Va.) added 25 assists and seven digs.

In the first set, Janowski hit a kill to cut the Miami lead to 14-12, but that would be the closest UVa would get as the Hurricanes went on to win, 25-20.

The second set featured eight ties, including one at 20-20 when Bausback hit a kill, but Miami came back to win five of the next six points to win the frame, 25-21.

The Hurricanes hit .323 in the third, while holding UVa to a .138 hitting percentage on the way to a 25-18 win.

Miami was led by Taylor Hollins, who hit .647 with 11 kills, and Emani Sims, who hit .600 with 10 kills.

Up next, the Cavaliers return home to face Georgia Tech on Nov. 2 and Clemson on Nov. 3. Both matches’ start time is 7 p.m. at Memorial Gymnasium.
