Virginia Competes in Georgia Fall Invitational This Weekend

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va.-The Virginia men’s and women’s swimming and diving programs travel to Athens, Ga., this weekend to compete in the Georgia Fall Invitational Nov. 30-Dec. 2 at the Gabrielsen Natatorium.
The Cavaliers will compete against full teams from Auburn, California, Georgia, Harvard, Penn State, along with some Texas men and Virginia Tech’s divers.

The meet will be contested under a championship format with preliminaries beginning at 9:30 a.m. each morning and finals starting at 5 p.m. on Friday and Saturday and 3 p.m. on Sunday.
In the most recent CSCAA men’s poll, Cal is No. 3, Texas is No. 4, Virginia is No. 9, Georgia is No. 11 and Auburn is No. 16. On the women’s side, Cal is No. 2, Georgia is No. 3, Auburn is No. 9 and Virginia is No. 10.
Friday’s action will see the 200 free relay, 500 free, 200 IM, 50 free, 400 medley relay, women’s 3-meter and men’s 1-meter contested. Saturday’s events will be the 200 medley relay, 400 IM, 100 fly, 200 free, 100 breast, 100 back, 800 free relay, women’s 1-meter and men’s 3-meter, while the 200 back, 100 free, 200 breast, 200 fly, 1650 free, 400 free relay platform diving will be competed on Sunday.
Last time out, Virginia women defeated No. 14 Indiana, 226-126, and Penn State, 210-141, Saturday (Nov. 17) in Bloomington, Ind. UVa’s men were victorious over No. 24 Penn State, 198-155, but were barely beaten by No. 7 Indiana, 177-176.
On the women’s side, senior Lauren Perdue is currently ranked fifth in the nation in the 50 free (22.59), 13th in the 200 free (1:46.66) and 17th in the 100 free (49.67). Junior Rachel Naurath is ninth in the 1000 free (9:46.90), 15th in the 200 fly (1:58.30), while sophomore Kelly Offutt is 14th in the 1000 (9:51.69).
Freshman Courtney Bartholomew is 12th in the 100 back (53.91) and 19th in the 200 back (1:57.06)
In the 1000 free on the men’s side, junior Brad Phillips is 11th (9:07.98) and classmate Jan Daniec is right behind in 12th (9:08.85). Senior Brady Fox is 19th in the 200 back (1:46.31)
The Cavalier divers return to the pool Jan. 3-5 for the Tennessee Diving Invitational in Knoxville, Tenn., before the entire team faces North Carolina at UVa’s Aquatic and Fitness Center on Jan. 19.
