Shabaz and Singh Win Futures Titles in India

DHARWAD, India – Former Virginia men’s tennis players Sanam Singh (Class of 2011) and Michael Shabaz (Class of 2011) won titles this week at Futures Circuit event in India. Shabaz teamed with former Memphis standout Amrit Narasimhan to win his first career professional doubles title, while Singh won the singles title for the second straight week and his fifth title of the year.
Shabaz and Narasimhan, unseeded in the doubles draw, won four matches, three in straight sets, to win the championship. It is Shabaz’s second career title, as he won a singles title on the Futures Tour in Guatemala in February.
Singh, the No. 2 seed in the singles draw, didn’t drop a set en route to winning his second straight title.
Singh and Shabaz, along with Ted Angelinos (Class of 2008), will all be in action in next week’s India Futures event.
