CHARLOTTESVILLE – Three members of the Virginia women’s soccer team were honored Tuesday by Soccer America, as the magazine announced its 2012 women’s soccer awards. Senior forward Caroline Miller (Rockville, Md.) and sophomore Morgan Brian (St. Simons Island, Ga.) were named Soccer America MVPs, with Miller on the first team and Brian on the second team. Forward Makenzy Doniak (Chino Hills, Calif.) was named to the All-Freshman first team.

Miller is the first Cavalier named to the first team since Nikki Krzysik in 2008, and is the first Virginia forward to be honored by the publication. The 2012 ACC Offensive Player of the Year, Miller set single-season school records with 20 goals and 47 points this season. The conference leader in goals and points in 2012, she was one of just four players nationally to reach the 20-goal mark this season, and the first from the ACC in four years to accomplish the feat. A two-time ACC Player of the Week, she was named first-team All-ACC for the second consecutive season and was selected to the ACC All-Tournament team as Virginia won the 2012 ACC Championship.

Brian received second team honors for the second consecutive season. After missing the first nine games of the season while starring for the United States squad that captured the 2012 FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup championship in Japan. Upon her return she had four goals and seven assists, earning first-team All-ACC and NSCAA Southeast Region accolades. She had three goals and three assists in the ACC Tournament, leading the Cavaliers to the championship and earning ACC Tournament MVP honors.

Doniak was second on the team with 10 goals, eight assists and 28 points this season. She was named to the TopDrawerSoccer.com Freshman Team of the Season First Team and was an ACC All-Freshman Team selection. Doniak became the first player in school history to score a goal in each of the first five games of her career.
