Head Coach Joanne Boyle

“I was disappointed with how we came out. A lot of credit goes to North Carolina. They are a good team this year. Their record shows it. We didn’t respond the way we needed to. They had three people in double figures and balanced scoring. Tierra got her shots off. We had a lot of mental breakdowns.”
“We need to turn this around really quickly. I felt that the last couple of weeks, we have been playing good ball, but we can’t let great teams [do this to us]. We’ve played with great teams, the Miamis of the world. We’ve played good teams. We can’t be a team that makes mistakes and hangs out heads and let that carry on for seven or eight minutes. We can’t do that.”

On the turnovers
“North Carolina played good defense. I thought we were somewhat lackadaisical with the ball. That’s how Carolina wins games. They turn you over and they get layups and second-chance points and things that have to be somewhat under your control. I thought we were not playing with the effort we have been playing with the last couple of weeks. We were just very flat. You saw the loose balls: they got every one in the first half. It wasn’t until the second half that I thought we settled down and started playing our game. Against a great team like Carolina, if you are down 20, it’s hard to get out of a hole like that.”

On how Carolina created the turnovers
“They do what they do. They pressure. They didn’t do much of that tonight, but they are big on traps. They play passing lanes. You get into the paint and they are great shot blockers. There are a lot of different ways they can do it.”
