CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – Virginia freshman Julia Elbaba (Oyster Bay, N.Y.) has been named the Atlantic Coast Conference Women’s Tennis Player of the Week, announced Tuesday.

Elbaba went 2-1 in singles action and 3-0 in doubles play at the UVa Winter Invitational. Elbaba earned wins over two ranked opponents to capture a share of the singles title with 30 points.

After dropping her first match to No. 67 Kate Turvy of Northwestern, 6-3, 7-6, Elbaba took down No. 23 Brynn Boren of Tennessee, 6-3, 7-5 and No. 123 Sarah Pham of Utah, 6-0, 6-1 in successive days to move to 16-2 overall in singles play for the 2012-13 season.

In doubles action, Elbaba paired with two different partners at the No. 3 position. Elbaba began the UVa Invitational with partner Maria Fuccillo (Rockville, Md.) and defeated the Wildcat pair of Brittany Wowchuk and Turvy 8-3.

Elbaba played the final two doubles matches with senior Hana Tomljanovic (Boca Raton, Fla.) and they had little trouble with their opposition from Tennessee and Utah. The Cavalier duo shut out Tiffany Tavares and Mimi Fotopoulos 8-0 and edged Sarah Pham and Callie Craig 8-2 to complete the undefeated weekend.
