CHARLOTTESVILLE – The top-ranked Virginia men’s tennis team advanced to the 2013 ITA National Team Indoor Championships with a 6-1 win over No. 55 Arkansas on Saturday night at the Boyd Tinsley Courts at the Boar’s Head Sports Club. The Cavaliers, who downed No.63 North Florida a day before, won both their matches during the ITA Kick-Off Weekend to advance to National Team Indoors for the ninth consecutive year.

“Overall it was a good performance to beat a strong Arkansas team 6-1 and advance to National Team Indoors,” said head coach Brian Boland. “We were better in doubles today than we were yesterday. The guys came out with a lot more energy and worked together at a higher level, and the scores showed that. In singles, we had a great deal of success at the top of the lineup with guys winning pretty convincingly. We are still experimenting with the lineup and giving some guys a chance to prove themselves on the court, and that will continue. We are excited to head to Seattle and have our first chance to see how we stack up against the best teams in the country.”

The Cavaliers (2-0) took a 1-0 lead in the match by taking the doubles point. At No. 3, Harrison Richmond (Pawleys Island, S.C.) and Alex Domijan (Wesley Chapel, Fla.) downed Mike Ward and Gregoire Lehmann 8-3 to give UVa the early edge. Jarmere Jenkins (College Park, Ga.) and Mac Styslinger(Birmingham, Ala.) clinched the opening point with their 8-4 win at No. 1 over Mike Nott and Manfred Jeske.

In singles, Virginia quickly extended its advantage to 6-0 with five straight set wins to secure the victory. Domijan defeated Lehmann 6-3, 6-1 at the No. 1 position, followed by a 6-2, 6-3 at No. 2 by Jenkins over Santiago Munoz. Styslinger clinched the win with his 6-1, 6-3 victory at No. 3 over Jovan Parlic. Mitchell Frank (Annandale, Va.) topped Ward 6-2, 6-2 at No. 4 and Richmond added a 6-4, 6-2 win at No. 6 over Victor Hoang. The Razorbacks won the final match on the courts at No. 5 where Nott rallied for a three-set win over Julen Uriguen(Guatemala City, Guatemala).

The Cavaliers will return to team action on Feb 15-18 at the ITA National Team Indoor Championships, hosted by the University of Washington. Virginia won the tournament in 2008, 2009, 2010 and 2011.
