GREENSBORO, N.C.-Junior Virginia swimmers Jan Daniec and Caroline Kenney have been named the Atlantic Coast Conference Male and Female Swimmer of the Week, respectively, the conference announced Tuesday (Jan. 29). The duo helped lead the Cavaliers to a sweep of Wisconsin and Virginia Tech Jan. 25-26.

Daniec won three individual events, including the 500 free (4:25.70), 1,650 free (15:08.65) and 400 IM (3:55.16), and was a part of the 800 free relay that touched first in 6:34.84. The Mission Viejo, Calif., native’s mile time was an NCAA B standard and ranks 16th in the nation this year.

Kenney captured the 500 free in a time of 4:49.07, and placed second in the 200 free (1:49.42) and third in the 200 back (1:59.55). A native of Suwanee, Ga., she also was a part of the 800 free relay that one in a time of 7:20.95.

With these two awards, the Cavaliers have won a total of nine conference weekly honors this season. Senior Lauren Perdue (Greenville, N.C.), junior Rachel Naurath (Manakin-Sabot, Va.) and freshman Courtney Bartholomew (Holland, Mich.) were honored in the fall, while junior Brad Phillips (Herndon, Va.), sophomores JB Kolod (Pittsburgh, Pa.) and Ellen Williamson (Ft. Mitchell, Ky.) and freshman Katie Warburg (Wilton, Conn.) earned weekly honors on Jan. 22 for their efforts against ACC rivals North Carolina and Duke.

Up next, Virginia returns to action Feb. 16-17 for the Cavalier Invitational at the Aquatic and Fitness Center in Charlottesville. The women’s ACC Championships will be held Feb. 20-23, while the men’s conference meet is Feb. 27-March 2. Both meets will be held in Greensboro, N.C.
