GREENSBORO, N.C. –

Former Virginia standout power forward Travis Watson is the Cavaliers’ 2013 Atlantic Coast Conference Men’s Basketball Tournament Legend. The 2013 Legends, who will be honored at the ACC Tournament in March, were announced Thursday (Jan. 31) by ACC Commissioner John Swofford. The 60th ACC Tournament is scheduled for March 14-17 in Greensboro, N.C.

The 2013 ACC Tournament Legends also include Gene Corrigan (ACC), Ace Custis (Virginia Tech), Trajan Langdon (Duke), Terrell McIntyre (Clemson), Tharon Mayes (Florida State), Mike O’Koren (North Carolina), Mark Price (Georgia Tech), Carl Tacy (Wake Forest), Gerry Ward (Boston College), Dereck Whittenburg (NC State), Gary Williams (Maryland) and Mike Wittman (Miami).

Watson was a three-time All-ACC performer and four-year letterwinner from 1999-2003. The 6-8 Watson totaled 54 games in which he scored and rebounded in double figures, the 12th highest total in ACC history. Watson averaged in double figures in each of his four seasons at UVa, totaling 1,546 career points, which is 14th on the Virginia career list. He also grabbed 1,115 rebounds in his career, more than any Cavalier save for the legendary Ralph Sampson. Watson’s career rebound total places him 15th on the ACC career list.

Named second-team All-ACC in 2001, 2002 and 2003, Watson led the ACC in rebounding in 2002 (9.7) and 2003 (10.4), finished second in 2001 (9.1) and was fourth as a freshman in 2000 (8.3).

Watson was a four-year starter, leading Virginia to a 72-48 record and four straight post-season tournament appearances, including three NIT bids and one NCAA appearance. He still ranks third on Virginia’s career blocked shots list (130) and eighth in field goal percentage (.519).

Watson has played nine seasons professionally in Europe and Israel, leading the Euroleague in rebounding in 2007 while playing for Armani Jeans Milano and the Greek League in 2004 and 2005.

Born in San Antonio, Texas, and a native of Brookneal, Va., Watson currently resides in Alexandria, Va.

The Legends will be honored at this year’s ACC’s Men’s Basketball Tournament at the annual ACC Legends Brunch, which will be held Saturday, March 16, beginning at 10 a.m. in the Guilford Ballroom of the Sheraton Four Seasons Hotel. The Legends will also be introduced later that day to the Greensboro Coliseum crowd at halftime of the first semifinal game.
