CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va.—A program record five Virginia softball games will be broadcast in 2013, including two games on national television, the Atlantic Coast Conference announced Thursday (Feb. 7).

“This is a fantastic way to showcase our team both on the road and at home,” UVa head coach Eileen Schmidt said. “The series with North Carolina, Florida State and Virginia Tech are all late in the year, so the action and implications should be electric.”

Virginia’s away series at North Carolina (April 6-7) will see all three games broadcast on ESPN3. The Cavaliers’ series finale at Florida State will be shown Monday night, April 15, at 7 p.m. on ESPNU, marking UVa’s second television appearance in program history.

The Cavaliers’ home game against Virginia Tech on April 29 at 7 p.m. will also be broadcast on ESPNU. It will be the program’s first home game to be shown on national television and will be only the third game televised overall. Virginia’s only other television appearance was in the ACC tournament in 2012.

“Being able to host a television game at our home park is just a great way to show off our historic University,” Schmidt said. “Thanks goes out to the athletic department for stepping up and making our facility TV-ready and also to ESPN to continue to grow the sport of softball. The lineup of games they will be broadcasting this year is awesome.”

The Cavaliers open the season Feb. 8-9 in the Campbell/Hampton Inn Invitational in Buies Creek, N.C.
