CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – Virginia hosts Georgia Tech in ACC men’s basketball action on Sunday, Feb. 24. Tipoff at John Paul Jones Arena is set for 2 p.m.

The game will be televised by the ACC Network and broadcast on the Virginia Sports Radio Network. The home game against Georgia Tech is Youth Day at JPJA.

Virginia (18-8) is tied for third in the ACC with an 8-5 record, while Georgia Tech (14-11) is tied for 10th at 4-9.

The Cavaliers have lost two straight games, including a heartbreaking 54-50 decision at No. 2 Miami Tuesday night. Georgia Tech is coming off a 70-58 home loss to surging North Carolina and is 3-3 in its last six games.

Virginia looks to even the two-game regular-season series against Georgia Tech after suffering a 66-60 loss against the Yellow Jackets on Super Bowl Sunday, Feb. 3. The Cavaliers blew a pair of nine-point leads and were outscored 38-23 in the second half in the loss. The Yellow Jackets had four players score in double figures, led by Mfon Udofia’s 15 points. Junior Joe Harris (Chelan, Wash.) led UVa with 18 points and became the 44th Cavalier to score 1,000 career points. Junior Akil Mitchell (Charlotte, N.C.) added 13 points and 12 rebounds for his eighth double-double.

The `Hoos are 34-39 all-time against Georgia Tech in a series that dates back to 1947-48. The Cavaliers are 19-11 against the Yellow Jackets in Charlottesville, including a 3-1 mark at JPJA. Virginia is 5-1 in its last six games overall against Georgia Tech.

Virginia ranks in the top seven nationally in four defensive categories, highlighted by its fourth-ranked scoring defense at 54 points per game. Offensively Virginia has scored 70 or more points in four of its last five games and is averaging 64.4 points per game, shooting 46 percent from the field and a school-best 41 percent from 3-point land.

Harris ranks fourth in the ACC in scoring at 16.7 points per game and is the only player in the league to rank in the top 10 in 3-point field goal percentage (1st), field goal percentage (5th) and free throw percentage (8th). Harris has led Virginia in scoring in each of the last seven games.

Mitchell is averaging a career-high 12.3 points per game and ranks third in the ACC with a career-best 8.7 rebounds per game. Senior point guard Jontel Evans (Hampton, Va.) is averaging 5.1 assists per game.

Sophomore Darion Atkins (Clinton, Md.) has played the last four games with a right shin injury, while freshman Mike Tobey (Monroe, N.Y.) has missed the last five games with mononucleosis.

Head coach Tony Bennett sports a 71-49 record, including a 4-1 mark against Georgia Tech, in four seasons at Virginia. Bennett guided the Cavaliers to their first NCAA Tournament since 2006-07 last season.

The Yellow Jackets are averaging 61.4 points per game and yielding 64.9 ppg. The Yellow Jackets rank third in the ACC in rebounding at 38.1 per game. Georgia Tech is led in scoring by freshman forward Marcus Georges-Hunt at 10.7 points per game, while junior forward Robert Carter, Jr. has added 9.8 ppg and a team-leading 6.9 rebounds per game.

Head coach Brian Gregory has a 25-31 mark in two seasons at Georgia Tech. Gregory is 197-125 in 10 seasons of collegiate coaching.
