Greensboro, N.C. – Virginia’s Brittany Altomare, a senior from Shrewsbury, Mass., is the Atlantic Coast Conference Women’s Golfer of the Month for March after leading the Cavaliers to the team title at last weekend’s Bryan National Collegiate Tournament, the ACC announced Friday.

It marks the second consecutive month a Cavalier has received the honor. Sophomore Briana Mao was selected the ACC Women’s Golfer of the Month for February.

Altomare earned a second-place individual finish in the Bryan National Collegiate, posting a 4-under score of 212, just one stroke off of receiving individual medalist honors. Altomare helped Virginia to its first team title of the spring as the Cavaliers recorded a 5-over 869 to win by four shots over seventh-ranked Arkansas, one of four Top 10 teams and 14 ranked teams in the Bryan field. For its play, Virginia was named GolfWeek’s National Women’s Golf Team of the Week.

The performance by Altomare was her second top three finish of the month. Earlier, she finished third in the Gator Invitational in Gainesville, Fla., March 15-17, recording a 3-over 213 in helping lead UVa to a fourth-place team finish. Ranked 15th nationally in the most recent Sagarin Golf Ratings, Altomare’s Top 10 finish was the 18th of her career, tying a Virginia school mark. She also placed 14th earlier in the month at the Darius Rucker Invitational in Hilton Head, S.C.

Virginia will next be in action at the 2013 ACC Women’s Golf Championship, which will be held April 19-21 at the Sedgefield Country Club in Greensboro, N.C.

The ACC Women’s Golfer of the Month for March 31 included tournaments played March 1, 2013 through March 31, 2013.
