Virginia-Radford Series
Virginia leads the series with Radford, 18-3-1. The Cavaliers pulled out a 3-2 win in 11 innings last year over the Highlanders on a walk-off hit from Nate Irving. UVa is 7-0 against Radford under the current coaching staff (since 2004).

Noting Radford
Radford (19-11) enters the Wednesday contest on a seven-game win streak after sweeping Winthrop last weekend in a three-game Big South series. The Highlanders started the streak by winning the final two games of their road series at Campbell, which is ranked No. 25 nationally this week by Baseball America.

Josh Reavis leads the team with a .317 batting average, while Jeff Kemp is hitting .310 with a team-high seven homers and 26 RBI to highlight the Radford offense, which owns a .264 team batting average. The Highlanders’ pitching staff holds a 4.65 ERA, while the team is fielding at a solid .978 clip.

The Week That Was
Virginia went 5-0 last week, including a 4-0 mark on the road. All five games were decided by two runs or fewer. Kyle Crockett (Jr., Poquoson, Va.) finished all five contests in earning a quintet of saves. He is the first pitcher in program history to earn saves in four-consecutive games. Crockett now has seven saves this year after allowing one hit and striking out nine in 5 1/3 innings during the five-game stretch.

Joe McCarthy (Fr., Scranton, Pa.) was the Cavaliers’ top hitter last week, going 8-for-20 (.400). He was 4-for-6 with a double, two homers and four RBI in the Monday win at Wake Forest. In addition to earning the win on the mound and firing a career-high 7 1/3 innings Monday, Nick Howard (So., Olney, Md.) was 6-for-17 (.353) at the plate last week.

Mike Papi (So., Tunkhannock, Pa.) was 5-for-16 (.313) at the plate and also drew eight walks. UVa worked 33 walks in the five-game stretch, including a season-high 14 on Sunday.

Tough Schedule Ahead
Virginia’s looming ACC schedule is daunting, with four of the remaining five conference opponents currently holding .500-plus conference records. UVa has series remaining with each of the division leaders – No. 6 Florida State (10-5) and No. 1 North Carolina (12-2). The Cavaliers also travel to No. 17 Georgia Tech (9-6) and Virginia Tech (7-8) and play host to Duke (8-7).

On the Horizon
The Cavaliers hit the road again this weekend weekend (April 12-14) for a three-game series in Atlanta against No. 17 Georgia Tech. UVa returns home for four games next week, battling Old Dominion (April 17) before taking on No. 6 Florida State in a three-game series (April 19-21).
