CHARLOTTESVILLE – The National Women’s Soccer League begins its debut season on April 13 as the eight clubs play their first regular season matches. Eight former Virginia players are on the league’s opening day rosters, announced this week.

The Washington Spirit has five Virginia players on its roster. Lori Lindsey (Class of 2002) was allocated to the squad from the U.S. Women’s National Team and Caroline Miller (Class of 2013) was the club’s second round selection in January’s collegiate draft. Chantel Jones (Class of 2011), Julia Roberts (Class of 2012) and Kika Toulouse (Class of 2011) were all signed by the club.

FC Kansas City has two Cavalier alumni on the roster. Becky Sauerbrunn (Class of 2007) was an allocated player from the US National Team and the club signed Sinead Farrelly (Class of 2011).

Sarah Huffman (Class of 2006) signed with the Western New York Flash.

The 2013 season begins Saturday with Washington at Boston and FC Kansas City hosting Portland. Western New York opens the season Sunday at Sky Blue FC.
