Greensboro, N.C. – Virginia senior Brittany Altomare shot 1-under 70 to improve her lead to three strokes following the second round of play at the ACC Championships taking place at the Sedgefield Country Club in Greensboro, N.C. Altomare enters Sunday’s final round at 1-under 141. She is three shots ahead of Duke’s Lindy Duncan, the 2012 ACC individual champion, who was also last season’s PING national player of the year.

The Cavaliers are in third place in the team standings with a two-day total of 32-over 600. UVa shot 16-over 300 for the second consecutive day. Duke, ranked No. 3 in the latest Golfstat standings, leads the nine-team field at 17-over 585 while No. 21 NC State moved into second place at 28-over 596. Florida State is nine shots behind the Cavaliers on the leaderboard at 609.

Altomare had another solid round with two birdies and a lone bogey to go with 15 pars. She is the only player in the 45-competitor field to manage to shoot under par on the Pete Dye designed course that is home to the PGA Tour’s Wyndham Championship.

“I’ve been getting up and down and making the putts you need to make to save par,” Altomare said. “My putting has never felt better. I have been trying to stay in the moment – the present shot – and not think about what I’ve done in the past or what is coming up in the future. I think I’ve done a pretty good job of that this week, so I’m going to try and keep that mindset.”

Altomare has some company near the top of the leaderboard from teammate Briana Mao. She shot 1-over 72 to move into a tie for third place at 4-over 146. Mao led Virginia at last year’s ACC Championships with an 11th-place finish.

UVa’s Portland Rosen is in 18th place after two rounds at 12-over 154. Elizabeth Brightwell is 37th at 161 and Nicole Agnello is 38th at 162.

The Cavaliers will be paired with NC State and Duke during Sunday’s final round. Those teams will tee off starting at 9:40 a.m. The final pairing featuring Altomare, Duncan and NC State’s Ana Menendez will start at 10:20 a.m.

Live scoring of the tournament is online at Golfstat.com. Live web streaming of the final round will be available starting at 12:30 p.m. on theACC.com.
