CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va.—The Virginia softball team dropped the final game of a three-game series against NC State, 2-0, Sunday afternoon (April 21) at The Park in Charlottesville.

In the third, NC State’s Leah Jones came around to score on a RBI single by Renada Davis. The Wolfpack (26-18-1, 10-7 ACC) added another run in the fourth on a sacrifice fly by Scout Albertson that scored Hayley Stowe.

Senior pitcher Melanie Mitchell (White Plains, Md.) only allowed four hits and recorded seven strikeouts in the complete game, but came away with the loss to fall to 13-15 on the season.

Emily Weiman (24-16) struck out nine in the shutout for the Wolfpack.

The Cavaliers (18-25, 3-15 ACC) had three singles in the game from seniors Taylor Williams (Woodbridge, Va.) and Alex Skinkis (La Palma, Calif.) and junior Karli Johnson (Lovettsville, Va.).

Up next, the Cavaliers travel to Lynchburg, Va., on April 24 for a doubleheader at 2 p.m. before hosting Virginia Tech in the final weekend of the regular season (April 28-29). Sunday’s doubleheader is scheduled for 12 p.m., while Monday night’s single game is slated for a 7 p.m. start and will be broadcast live on ESPNU.
