Virginia Earns No. 3 Seed at ACC Women's Tennis Championship

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – Virginia has earned the No. 3 seed for the 2013 Atlantic Coast Conference Women’s Tennis Championship, which runs Thursday-Sunday, April 25-28 at Cary (N.C.) Tennis Park.

The Cavaliers (16-8, 9-2 ACC) received a first-round bye and will play No. 6 seed Duke (14-8, 5-5 ACC) or No. 11 seed Virginia Tech (13-11, 2-9 ACC) in the quarterfinals on Friday, April 26 at 3 p.m.

Virginia won a school-best nine ACC matches and has won eight of its last nine matches overall. The Cavaliers defeated Florida State (4-0) and Miami (4-1) last weekend at Snyder Tennis Center.

The Cavaliers are one of seven ACC teams ranked in the top 25 in the latest ITA national rankings. Top-seeded North Carolina (24-2, 10-1 ACC), No. 2 seed Clemson (14-6, 9-2 ACC) and No. 4 seed Miami (17-5, 8-3 ACC) also earned first-round byes.

Action begins with first-round matches on Thursday and continues through Sunday’s 11 a.m. championship match.
