Another In-State Opponent on Docket Before Finals Week
Under the current coaching staff (since 2004), the Cavaliers have an 89-15-1 record against in-state opponents. UVa is 8-3 this year against foes from the commonwealth of Virginia in 2013 with two games against VCU remaining.

Cavaliers, Rams Draw Big Crowds in Richmond
Virginia and VCU have played in front of big crowds each of the last two years at The Diamond. When the then-No. 1 ranked Cavaliers visited Richmond in 2011, a crowd of 5,421 was in attendance — the largest crowd for a college baseball game in state history. The 2012 matchup also had a healthy attendance of 3,427, despite the fact the game was added to the schedule less than a month earlier.

Richmond Natives Return to Back Yard
Four Cavaliers hail from the Richmond vicinity, including the scheduled Tuesday starter, Nathan Kirby, who went to James River High School. Tyler Carrico (James River HS), Reed Gragnani (Mills Godwin HS) and Austin Young (Atlee HS) also attended high school in the Richmond area.

UVa averages 7.8 runs per game, outscoring its opponents 359-165.

Plenty of Close Games in April
Thirteen of Virginia’s 18 April games have been decided by three runs or fewer, including five one-run games; UVa is 9-4 in those games. Four of UVa’s six April midweek games have been determined by two runs or fewer. UVa had nine games decided by three runs or fewer in Feburary and March.
