Columbus, Ohio – The Virginia men’s golf team shot 10-over 294 during the second round of the NCAARegional taking place at the Ohio State Golf Club’s Scarlet Course in Columbus, Ohio. The Cavaliers improved their position in the team standing by one spot, moving up to 10th place. UVa’s score was a nine-stroke improvement over its opening round result.

The Cavaliers’ 36-hole total stands at 29-over 597 entering Saturday’s final round. UNLV and South Carolina share the lead at 16-over 584.

Auburn and Stanford are tied for third place at 18-over 586 and Texas Tech and New Mexico are tied for fifth place at 19-over 587, 10 shots ahead of Virginia.

The top five teams from the regional will advance to the NCAA Championships. The Columbus site is one of six regional tournaments taking place this week to fill the NCAA Championship field.

For the second consecutive day, David Pastore led the Cavaliers. He shot 1-over 72 to move up to 10th place at 3-over 145. Denny McCarthy improved to 20th place after shooting 3-over 74 for the second straight day. He enters the final round at 6-over 148. Ji Soo Park and Nick Tremps are tied for 45th at 152. Tremps carded a second round score of 73 and Park shot 75. Mac McLaughlin is in 75th place at 183. He shot 80 during Friday’s play.

UNLV’s Carl Jonson will take a one stroke lead for medalist honors into the final round. He leads the field at 2-under 140. Texas Tech’s Matias Dominguez and South Carolina’s Will Starke are tied for second at 1-under 141.

The Cavaliers will tee off at 8:20 a.m. Saturday from the 10th tee to start their final round. Virginia will be paired with Georgia Southern and Chattanooga.
