Fourteen Cavaliers Earn Outdoor Track All-ACC Academic Honors

CHARLOTTESVILLE – Fourteen members of the Virginia men’s and women’s tack and field teams were named to the All-ACC Academic Outdoor Track & Field Teams, the conference announced Thursday. The Cavalier men and women each had seven honorees who were recognized for succeeding both academically and athletically.

“We are extremely proud of these 14 student-athletes,” said head coach Bryan Fetzer. “One of the most important parts of our program is to have individuals who are successful on the track and in the classroom. These individuals have done that and it is great to see them recognized for their hard work, both athletically and academically.”

All four of the Cavaliers who qualified for the NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships, distance runners Mark Amirault, Thomas Porter and Barbara Strehler, and javelin thrower Abbey Karin, were selected to the teams. Amirault was also honored as a third-team CoSIDA Academic All-American on Thursday.

Karin was one of three Cavaliers honored on the team for the second consecutive year, along with Jordan Lavender and Catherine White. Earning the honor for the first time from the women’s team, along with Strehler, were Peyton Chaney, Anna Finger, and Vicky Fouhy. On the men’s side, Amirault and Porter were joined by fellow first-time honorees Matthew Armentrout, Taylor Gilland, Christian Lavorgna, Drew Paisley and Ryan Satchell.

To be eligible for consideration, a student-athlete must have earned a 3.00 grade point average for the previous semester and maintained a 3.00 cumulative average during her academic career.
