CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va.—Three members of the Virginia swimming and diving program are set to compete at the World University Games in Kazan, Russia, which run through July 17.

Rising junior Ellen Williamson (Ft. Mitchell, Ky.) will represent the United States in the women’s 200-meter backstroke, while rising sophomore Yannick Kaeser (Mumpf, Switzerland) and David Karasek (Class of 2012) will swim for Switzerland. Kaeser will compete in the men’s 50m, 100m and 200m breaststroke events and Karasek will swim in the men’s 100m and 200m freestyle and the men’s 200m individual medley. The swimming action starts Wednesday (July 10) with Kaeser in the 100m breast (2:09 a.m. Eastern) and Williamson in the 200m back (2:25 a.m. Eastern).

Williamson is a five-time All-American and captured 2013 Atlantic Coast Conference championships in the 200-yard IM and 800-yard free relay. Williamson was named the 2012 ACC Freshman of the Year after finishing sixth in the 200-yard backstroke at the 2012 NCAA Championships.

Kaeser represented the Swiss at the 2012 Summer Olympics in London, finishing 24th in the 200m breast. Kaeser holds the Swiss national record in the event (2:12.09), which he set at the 2012 European Championships. Kaeser finished third in the 200-yard breast at the 2013 ACC Championships.

Karasek also represented Switzerland in London, finishing 28th in the 200m IM in 2:01.35, a Swiss national record. He also is part of the 4x200m free relay that set a national record of 7:22.30 at the 2012 European Championships. Karasek was an eight-time All-American at UVa, including a seventh-place finish in the 200-yard free at the 2012 NCAA Championships. Karasek has been attending graduate school in Spain since he graduated from UVa.

Note: semifinals will be held same day as prelims, finals will be held next night
