CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – Former Virginia women’s tennis student-athlete and volunteer assistant coach Emily Fraser (Rye, N.Y.) has been named assistant coach at the University of Pittsburgh, Panthers head coach Alex Santos announced Tuesday (July 30).

Fraser was a standout performer for the Cavaliers from 2009-12, leading Virginia to back-to-back NCAA round of 16 appearances in 2011 and 2012. She finished her UVa career ranked second in career doubles wins (119) and combined wins (221), and third in career singles wins (102). Fraser ranked as high as No. 8 nationally in doubles and No. 15 in singles.

Fraser was a two-time NCAA Singles and Doubles Championship participant and two-time All-ACC honoree. She was named the University of Virginia Female Athlete of the Year in 2012 and earned a pair of ACC All-Academic honors.

She helped the Cavaliers (19-10) to their third straight NCAA round of 16 appearance last season as a volunteer assistant coach. The Cavaliers won a school-best nine ACC matches as freshman Julia Elbaba (Oyster Bay, N.Y.) earned All-America honors and was named the ITA National Rookie of the Year.

“Emily will do a great job at Pitt and will be a tremendous asset to the program and the student-athletes,” Virginia head coach Mark Guilbeau said. “It is an exciting time for women’s tennis at Pitt as they move into the ACC. It is great that Emily will be a part of this transition and will help lead the program to new heights. Emily was an exceptional leader for our program as a player and volunteer assistant coach. We are extremely happy for Emily and wish her and the Pitt program the best. We look forward to seeing her out on the courts and know that she will quickly become one of the best young coaches in the country.”
