CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va.– The Virginia volleyball team travels west to take part in the Pepperdine Invitational Sept. 6-7 in Malibu, Calif. The Cavaliers will face Colorado State on Friday at 8 p.m., before playing the host Waves and UC Santa Barbara on Saturday at 1 p.m. and 8 p.m., respectively. All times are EST.

Live statistics for all matches will be available and linked through VirginiaSports.com.

UVa opened the 2013 season with three victories in the Jefferson Cup at Memorial Gymnasium Aug. 30-31. Virginia defeated Marshall, 3-0, on Friday evening (Aug. 30), before beating James Madsion, 3-1, and Montana, 3-0, on Saturday (Aug. 31).

Junior Tori Janowski (Sterling, Va.) was named the Jefferson Cup Most Valuable Player, while senior Emily Rottman and sophomore Lauren Fuller were also named to the All-Tournament Team.

Janowski was named the ACC Player of the Week and freshman Jasmine Burton was honored as the Freshman of the Week. It was the first time UVa has had a weekly award since 2010 and the Player of the Week since 2009.

The Rams earned sweeps in all three matches at home last weekend against Baylor, Cal Poly and Northern Colorado. Adrianna Culbert led the attack with 3.56 kills per set. CSU and UVa met for the first time last year in Fort Collins, Colo., where the Rams were victorious, 3-0.

The Waves won matches against Delaware and Iona, but suffered a 3-1 loss against Wisconsin at the Pepperdine Asics Classic last weekend. Taylor Racich paced the attack with 3.50 kills per set. The Waves and Cavaliers have faced twice all-time, with both teams winning one match. It will be the first meeting between the two schools since 1998.

The Gauchos lost to Stanford, 3-0, before defeating Nevada and New Mexico State in five sets last weekend. UCSB won the only meeting between the two schools, 3-1, in 2007.

Next up, the Cavaliers travel to Bowling Green, Ky., for a tournament at Western Kentucky. UVa faces the host Hilltoppers on Sept. 13, before competing against UNLV and Ohio on Sept. 14.
