CHARLOTTESVILLE – The Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) announced the ITA Division I Women’s Preseason Rankings, along with the selections for the 2013 Riviera/ITA Women’s All-American Championships on Friday (Sept. 6).

Virginia sophomore Julia Elbaba (Oyster Bay, N.Y.), who became UVa’s second All-American last season, opens the season with a No. 9 singles ranking. Sophomore Stephanie Nauta (Galveston, Texas) is ranked No. 58, while sophomore transfer Danielle Collins (St. Petersburg, Fla.) is ranked No. 74.

Nauta and senior Li Xi (Kunming, China) are ranked No. 14 in doubles, while Collins and sophomore Maci Epstein (Winter Park, Fla.) are ranked No. 55. Nauta and Xi advanced to the ITA Intercollegiate Indoor doubles finals and were NCAA Doubles Championship participants.

2013 ITA National Rookie of the Year Elbaba leads Virginia’s list of singles participants at the Riviera/ITA Women’s All-American Championships. Elbaba, who finished runner-up to Florida’s Lauren Embree at last year’s event, is one of 23 players in the main draw. Nauta and Collins will compete in the qualifying draw, while Xi and Epstein start in the pre-qualifying draw.

Xi and Nauta headline Virginia’s trio of doubles tandems at the All-American. Xi and Nauta will compete in the main draw, while Elbaba and freshman Rachel Pierson (Princeton, N.J.) and Collins and Epstein battle in the qualifying draw. Freshman Marie-Ambroisine Faure and senior Caryssa Peretz (Cherry Hill, N.J.) will compete in the pre-qualifying round.

The Riviera/ITA Women’s All-American Championships in Pacific Palisades, Calif., are set to begin on Saturday, Sept. 28 with pre-qualifying singles and doubles matches. Main draw action is slated for Thursday, October 3-6.
