CHARLOTTESVILLE – The No. 2 Virginia women’s soccer team concludes a seven-game homestand Thursday as it hosts Syracuse in the ACC opener at Klöckner Stadium. Game time is 7 p.m., and there will be a live video broadcast of the contest via a Cavaliers Live subscription on VirginiaSports.com.
Tickets for the game are $7 for adult general admission and $5 for youth, senior and faculty/staff general admission. Group tickets (20 or more) are $4. Free parking is available in the University Hall lots.
The Cavaliers (6-0) went undefeated through the non-conference for the first time since 2004 after winning the Virginia Nike Soccer Classic last weekend with wins over Rutgers and Seton Hall. Virginia leads the nation with 25 goals scored this season, led by junior midfielder Morgan Brian (St. Simons Island, Ga.) and sophomore forward Brittany Ratcliffe (Williamstown, N.J.), with five goals each. The Cavalier defense has posted four shutouts, including the last three games.
The Orange (4-2) is playing its first conference game as a member of the ACC. Syracuse is coming off a 1-0 loss at Connecticut on Sunday, which snapped a three-game win streak.
The teams have met just once before, a 6-0 Cavalier victory in the 2006 season opener at Klöckner Stadium.
Virginia has won nine of its last 10 ACC openers, including a 4-0 victory over NC State last season. The Cavaliers haven’t lost a home conference opener since 2002, a 1-0 loss to Clemson.
Following the Syracuse game, the Cavaliers will play their next three contests on the road. Virginia will visit Boston College on Sept. 19, Pittsburgh on Sept 22 and Duke on Sept. 26.
