Cavaliers Finish Sixth at DICK's Sporting Goods Collegiate Challenge Cup

Nashville, Tenn. – The 11th-ranked Virginia men’s golf team finished in sixth place after the stroke play portion of the DICK’s Sporting Goods Collegiate Challenge Cup taking place in Nashville, Tenn. The Cavaliers shot 1-over 289 Saturday for a 54-hole total of 5-over 860.
The 10-team field, with five squads from the SEC and five from the ACC, will face off in a match-play format Sunday. The Cavaliers will be pitted against Texas A&M in match play. The tournament is taking place at the Golf Club of Tennessee.
Georgia won the stroke play portion of the tournament at 20-under 832. Texas A&M was second at 837. Clemson had the top finish among ACC schools, placing third at 849.
Denny McCarthy had the top performance for Virginia, shooting 3-over 74 Saturday to finish fifth at 3-under 210. McCarthy’s effort was his second top-10 finish of the season and the ninth of his career.
Ji Soo Park placed 15th for UVa at 215 while David Pastore was 19th at 217. Jimmy Stanger came in 23rd at 218 and Nick McLaughlin was 45th at 234. Pastore posted the Cavaliers’ best final round score, shooting 1-under 70 while Stanger finished with a 71.
Texas A&M’s Ben Crancer took medalist honors by shooting 16-under 197.
