CHARLOTTESVILLE – The top-ranked Virginia women’s soccer team concludes a three-game road trip Thursday with a visit to Duke. Game time at Koskinen Stadium in Durham is 7 p.m., and the match will be broadcast online by the ACC Digital Network.
The top-ranked Cavaliers (9-0, 3-0 ACC) are coming off a pair of road wins last week, downing Boston College, 2-1, and Pittsburgh, 3-1. Virginia is the only unbeaten and untied team in Division I and looks to extend its win streak to 10 games on Thursday. The current nine-game win streak is tied for the second longest in school history, topped only by a 15-game win streak to open the 1990 season.
Virginia leads the ACC and ranks second nationally in scoring at 3.67 goals per game. The Cavaliers boast the league’s top two scorers, sophomore forward Makenzy Doniak (Chino Hills, Calif.), who has eight goals and five assists for 21 points, and junior midfielder Morgan Brian (St. Simons Island, Ga.), who has six goals and eight assists for 20 points. Virginia is the only team in the nation to have two 20-point scorers this season.
The Blue Devils (4-4-2, 1-2-1) are looking to snap a three-match winless streak after losses to Florida State and Wake Forest and a draw at Syracuse.
The Cavaliers own an 18-12-7 all-time lead in the series, including a 7-4-4 record in Durham. Virginia has gone undefeated (7-0-2) against Duke in the regular season since 2004, including a 3-0-1 record at Koskinen Stadium, but the Blue Devils have won all three postseason matches during that span. Last year, the teams split a pair of games in Charlottesville, with Virginia winning 1-0 in the regular season and Duke winning 3-1 in the round of 16 of the NCAA Tournament.
Virginia returns home Sunday to host No. 22 Maryland. Game time at Klöckner Stadium is 2 p.m. and the game will be broadcast online by the NSCAA. Sunday’s game is Cavman’s Crew Day, with a face-painter, balloon artist and UVa wristbands for kids. All fans will receive the first set of 2013 Virginia women’s soccer trading cards.
