Virginia Opens ACC Play at Duke, Wake Forest This Weekend

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va.–The Virginia volleyball team opens ACC play this weekend on the road at Duke and Wake Forest. The Cavaliers will face the Blue Devils on Friday (Sept. 27) at 6:30 p.m. and the Demon Deacons on Saturday (Sept. 28) at 6:30 p.m.
Both matches will have live video streams (subscription based) and live statistics linked through VirginiaSports.com.
UVa (7-5) won the Cavalier Classic last weekend (Sept. 20-21), defeating Seton Hall, Columbia and William & Mary each by a score of 3-1.Senior Emily Rottman (Santa Barbara, Calif.) was named the tourney’s MVP, while junior Mallory Woolridge (Glen Allen, Va.) and freshman Haley Kole (Tallahassee, Fla.) were also recognized on the all-tournament team.
The Blue Devils (9-2) are riding a five-match winning streak after upsetting then-No. 16 Illinois in their final match, 3-1, on Sept. 21. Emily Sklar and Elizabeth Campbell lead the attack with 3.69 and 3.61 kills per set, respectively.
Duke leads the all-time series, 45-13, and won the last meeting, 3-1, on Oct. 19, 2012 in Charlottesville.
The Demon Deacons (11-1) are off to their best start in school history and have won six straight. Kristin Grissom leads Wake Forest with 3.31 kills per set and 1.21 blocks per set.
UVa holds a 22-18 all-time advantage over the Demon Deacons and was victorious in the last meeting, 3-1, on Oct. 20, 2012 at Memorial Gymnasium.
The Cavaliers continue ACC play next weekend when they travel to Maryland (Oct. 4) and Pittsburgh (Oct. 5). Virginia returns home Oct. 11 when they host Syracuse to start a four-match home stand.
