TULSA, Okla. – The ITA All-American Championships, the first major individual tournament of the season, began Saturday with pre-qualifying action at the Case Tennis Center on the campus of the University of Tulsa. Virginia had three players in the draw, with one advancing to the second round.

First year J.C. Aragone (Yorba Linda, Calif.) won his first round match, while sophomore Jonathan Cornish (London, England.) dropped his opener. First-year Jordan Daigle’s (Lafayette, La.) first round match was delayed by rain.

Aragone downed Eric Marbach of Denver in the first round of pre-qualifying, 7-6(7), 6-1. He will play Kevin Metka of Ohio State in the second round on Sunday.

Cornish fell to Rolando Torrellas of Illinois State, 6-3, 3-6, 6-0, in his opening match of the tournament.

The pre-qualifying draw continues through Monday. Sixteen players will advance to the qualifying draw, which will be played Monday-Wednesday. The 64-player main draw will run Thursday-Sunday.

The 2010 and 2012 ITA All-American Champion Alex Domijan (Sr., Wesley Chapel, Fla.) and 2011 ITA All-American Champion Mitchell Frank (Jr., Annandale, Va.) were main draw selections, as was sophomore Mac Styslinger (Birmingham, Ala.). Sophomores Ryan Shane (Falls Church, Va.) and Harrison Richmond (Pawleys Island, S.C.) and senior Justin Shane (Falls Church, Va.) were selected for the qualifying draw.
