Top-Ranked Cavaliers Host Clemson Sunday

CHARLOTTESVILLE – The top-ranked Virginia women’s soccer team continues its three-game homestand Sunday as it hosts Clemson at Klöckner Stadium. Game time is 2 p.m., and there will be a live video broadcast of the contest via a Cavaliers Live subscription on VirginiaSports.com.
Tickets for the game are $7 for adult general admission and $5 for youth, senior and faculty/staff general admission. Group tickets (20 or more) are $4. Free parking is available in the University Hall lots. Fans will receive the second of three Virginia women’s soccer trading card sets as they enter Klöckner Stadium.
Virginia (11-0, 5-0 ACC) is the nation’s only unbeaten and untied team. In their third week as the nation’s consensus No. 1 team, the Cavaliers lead the ACC and rank second nationally in scoring at 3.36 points per game. The Virginia defense has posted six shutouts this season, including in each of the last five games at Klöckner Stadium.
The Cavaliers are coming off a week of rest after the 1-0 victory over Maryland on Sept. 29. Sophomore forward Brittany Ratcliffe (Williamstown, N.J.) came off the bench to score her seventh goal of the season as Virginia posted the victory in front of a Klöckner women’s soccer record crowd of 2,540.
The Tigers (6-3-3, 3-2-1) have already eclipsed their 2011 and 2012 combined ACC win total this season. Following a 1-1 draw at home with No. 5 Florida State last week, Clemson suffered a 1-0 overtime loss Thursday at No. 13 Virginia Tech to open its road trip.
The Cavaliers own a 12-10-1 all-time lead in the series, including a 5-3-1 record in Charlottesville. Virginia has dominated the series recently, having gone unbeaten (9-0-1) against the Tigers since 2004. Last year the Cavaliers posted a 1-0 victory at Clemson.
Virginia concludes its homestand Thursday against third-ranked Notre Dame. Game time for the first matchup of two top-three women’s teams in the 22-year history of Klöckner Stadium is 7 p.m. The first 1,500 fans through the gates for the Notre Dame game will receive a Virginia Soccer scarf and all fans will receive a free hot dog and soda.
