CHARLOTTESVILLE – The top-ranked Virginia women’s soccer team hosts one of the marquee games in the nation this season when it welcomes No. 5 Notre Dame to Klöckner Stadium Thursday night. Game time is 7 p.m., and the contest will be broadcast online by the ACC Digital Network.
Thursday’s game is hot dog night and all fans in attendance will receive a free hot dog and soda. The first 1,500 fans through the gates at Klöckner Stadium will also receive a Virginia Soccer scarf.
Tickets for the game are $7 for adult general admission and $5 for youth, senior and faculty/staff general admission. Group tickets (20 or more) are $4. Free parking is available in the University Hall lots.
Virginia (12-0, 6-0 ACC) is the nation’s only unbeaten and untied team. In their fourth week as the nation’s consensus No. 1 team, the Cavaliers lead the nation in scoring at 3.33 goals per game. The Virginia defense has posted seven shutouts this season, including in each of the last six games at Klöckner Stadium.
The Cavaliers are coming off a 3-0 victory over Clemson on Sunday. Sophomore Makenzy Doniak (Chino Hills, Calif.) scored her team-leading 10th goal of the season, while junior midfielders Morgan Brian (St. Simons Island, Ga.) and Danielle Colaprico (Freehold, N.J.) also scored against the Tigers.
The Fighting Irish (9-2-1, 5-1-1) are currently tied for third place in the ACC as they compete in their inaugural year in the conference. Notre Dame is looking to snap a two-game winless streak after a 1-1 draw against Wake Forest and a 2-0 loss at Miami last week.
Virginia and Notre Dame have only met once before in the regular season, a 2-0 Cavalier victory in 1989 at the University Hall field. The teams met in the preseason for eight consecutive years from 2005-12. Thursday’s game marks the first head-to-head ACC competition between Virginia and Notre Dame in any sport.
Virginia begins a three-game road trip Sunday with a visit to No. 11 Wake Forest. The Cavaliers don’t return home until an Oct. 24 matchup with Miami.
