CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – Virginia junior tight end Jake McGee has been named to the John Mackey Award Midseason Watch List, an honor given to the most outstanding collegiate tight end. The midseason watch list is the second step in the award’s process. The 2013 Mackey Semifinalists will be named on Nov. 18, 2013 and the 2013 Mackey Finalists on Nov. 25, 2013.

McGee (Richmond, Va.) leads UVa with 27 catches for 233 yards and two touchdowns. McGee over the weekend at Maryland tied his career high with eight catches and set a new career standard for receiving yards with 114.

The John Mackey Award, presented since 2000, is named for NFL Hall of Famer who helped create the tight end position into a pass-catching threat on the gridiron. Mackey was a role model on and off the field as demonstrated by his Super Bowl Championship, his commitment to community and his place in history as the first President of the NFL Players Association.

UVa has a history with the Mackey Award as Virginia alum and two-time Super Bowl Champion Heath Miller (Pittsburgh Steelers) won the award in 2004 as a Cavalier.

McGee joins Eric Ebron (North Carolina), Nick O’Leary (Florida State) and Clive Walford (Miami) as representatives from the ACC on the watch list.
