Charlottesville, Va. – The 14th-ranked Virginia men’s golf team wraps up its fall season this weekend at the eighth annual United States Collegiate Championship at the 7,017-yard, par 72 Lakeside Course at The Golf Club of Georgia in Alpharetta. The 54-hole event begins at 8:50 a.m. Friday, with all 78 competitors teeing off at the first tee. Play continues with round two Saturday morning and concludes with the final round Sunday.

Considered the top fall tournament on the collegiate schedule, the 15-team field includes 10 teams currently ranked in the top-25 of the Golfweek standings. The Cavaliers will be joined in the USCC field by host Georgia Tech (3), Texas A&M (2), Oklahoma State (7), Washington (8), Stanford (10), ULCA (15), Kent State (18), Clemson (21), Auburn (24), USC, Duke, Iowa, Wake Forest and East Tennessee State.

Virginia’s lineup will include Denny McCarthy, Derek Bard, Ben Rusch, Ji Soo Park and Nick McLaughlin. McCarthy leads the team with a 69.89 stroke average and has recorded a top-five finish in all three tournaments this fall. Last weekend, he was the runner-up at the Bank of Tennessee Intercollegiate after helping the Cavaliers to the team title by shooting a career-best 11-under 205.

Bard made his collegiate debut last week and finished fourth by shooting 9-under 67. His second round score of 8-under 64 was just one stroke shy of tying the UVa single-round scoring record.

McCarthy is ranked No. 7 in this week’s Golfweek standings while Bard checks in at the No. 11 position.

The USCC is unique among all college golf tournaments, with corporate skyboxes around the 18th green, caddies for each player and mandatory long pants for the competitors. The tournament is also carried through a live webcast for the final two rounds, hosted by award-winning sportscaster Brian Katrek of the PGA Tour Network. Live scoring is provided on Golfstat.com.

This year’s USCC individual champion receives an added bonus – a tournament exemption to compete in June, 2014, in Wichita’s Air Capital Classic Tournament, one of the most prestigious events on the Web.com Tour.
