Cavaliers Return Home at 7 p.m. Tuesday to Face UNC Greensboro

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – Coming off a big ACC win Saturday at No. 2 Notre Dame, the Virginia men’s soccer team returns home Tuesday evening to take on UNC Greensboro at Klöckner Stadium. The 7 p.m. contest marks the start of three straight Virginia home matches to wrap up the 2013 regular season. UVa is unbeaten in its last 10 matches overall as well as its last seven home games.

Parking Information
Because of the Pearl Jam concert on Tuesday evening at John Paul Jones Arena, soccer parking will be limited on a first-come, first-served basis to the Cage lot and Emmet/Ivy Garage. The Cage lot is located next to Onesty Hall by the field hockey facility. Soccer parking will not be available in the John Paul Jones Arena, University Hall or McCue Center lots. Tickets are $7 for adults and $5 for youth, seniors and faculty/staff. Group ticket orders of 20 or more tickets are $4.

Virginia Hits Season’s Home Stretch
Virginia is down to its final three matches of the regular season. All three will be played at home. UVa holds a 5-1-2 record at Klöckner Stadium this year. The Cavaliers also have key ACC home games remaining with No. 20 North Carolina (Friday, 7 p.m.) and Boston College (Nov. 8, 7 p.m.).

Madison Named College Soccer News National Player of Week
Darius Madison was named the National Player of the Week by College Soccer News. Madison scored both goals in the Cavaliers’ Saturday win at No. 2 Notre Dame.

Virginia-UNCG Series
Virginia and UNC Greensboro have met four times previously, with UVa holding a 3-1 lead in the series. The programs last met nearly 10 years ago to the day, with UNCG scoring a 1-0 win on Oct. 28, 2003, in Greensboro. They first met in 1984 (1-0 UVa win in OT) and also played in 1994 (3-0 UVa win) and 2001 (7-1 UVa win).

Last Saturday: Virginia Hands Notre Dame First Loss of 2013
Darius Madison scored a pair of goals to lift Virginia to a 2-0 victory over No. 2 Notre Dame on Saturday afternoon at Alumni Stadium in Notre Dame, Ind. With the win in its first visit to Notre Dame, Virginia handed the Fighting Irish their loss of the 2013 season.

Madison recorded his first career multi-goal game as UVa became the first side to score two goals against Notre Dame this season. The Fighting Irish were one of three remaining unbeaten teams in the nation and are the highest-ranked foe UVa has taken down on the road since knocking off then-No. 2 Wake Forest 1-0 on Sept. 18, 2009.

Virginia goalkeeper Jeff Gal made three saves as the Cavaliers recorded their seventh clean sheet of the year. Virginia out-shot Notre Dame, 8-7, and took four corner kicks to two for the Fighting Irish. Notre Dame was called for four more fouls than the Cavaliers, 17-13.

Virginia Riding Longest Unbeaten Streak Since 2009
Virginia brings a 10-match unbeaten streak into the the match tonight with UNCG. It marks the longest Cavalier unbeaten streak since 2009 when UVa ended the year on a 16-match unbeaten string in winning the national championship.

Virginia Jumps to 14th in NCAA RPI
Following its win at Notre Dame, Virginia moved up 13 spots to No. 14 in the latest NCAA RPI report for the 2013 season. Fourteen of UVa’s 17 regular-season foes are among the top 70, including eight in the top 40. UVa’s remaining opponents’ RPI: UNC Greensboro (56), North Carolina (27) and Boston College (74).

Offense Ranks Among Top 10 Nationally
Virginia ranks ninth nationally and second in the ACC in scoring offense with 2.14 goals per game. With 30 goals this year, UVa is tied for 12th nationally.

Virginia has scored at least two goals in nine of its last 11 matches, with 27 goals in that span. UVa already has surpassed its goal total for the entire 2012 season (29).

Plenty of Offensive Threats
Virginia has scored 30 goals in 14 games this season. Twelve different players have scored; UVa had 11 different goal scorers during the entire 2012 season. UVa has not had more than 12 goal scorers in a season since the 2004 team had 17 players score. Eric Bird leads the Cavaliers with six goals, while Jordan Allen has a team-high four assists.

Noting UNC Greensboro
UNC Greensboro is currently 8-6-2 following a 2-1 win at home over Georgia Southern on Saturday night. Forward Dustin Gamradt leads the Spartans offense with five goals, while midfielder David Reittinger owns four goals and three assists. Senior forward Brian Graham is also a major contributor with two goals and four assists. Redshirt sophomore Stephan Moffitt is the primary goalkeeper this season. He currently has 51 saves and six shutouts on the year.
