CHARLOTTESVILLE – Two members of the top-ranked Virginia women’s soccer team were honored Thursday as the Collegiate Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) announced the 2013 Academic All-District Teams. Junior midfielder Danielle Colaprico (Freehold, N.J.) and senior defender Molly Menchel (Alexandria, Va.) were named to the District 3 first team.

As first-team all-district selections, Colaprico and Menchel are now eligible for Capital One Academic All-America honors.

Colaprico, a psychology major, has started 17 of the Cavaliers’ 18 games this season. She is fourth on the team in scoring with 17 points on four goals and nine assists. Her nine assists rank second in the ACC and 25th nationally. Earlier this year she was named MVP of the Virginia Nike Soccer Classic.

Menchel, also a psychology major, has started every game for Virginia this season at left back. She is fifth on the team in scoring with five goals and five assists for 15 points. With 12 goals and 16 assists over her career, she is the highest scoring defender in school history.

To be eligible for the CoSIDA Academic All-District Team, student athletes must be a starter or important reserve with at least a 3.30 cumulative grade point average.

The Cavaliers conclude the regular season Thursday night as they host No. 5 Virginia Tech. Game time at Klöckner Stadium is 7 p.m.
