Top-Ranked Cavaliers Host Maryland in ACC Quarterfinals Sunday

CHARLOTTESVILLE – The top-ranked Virginia women’s soccer team will begin play in the 2013 ACC Tournament by hosting Maryland in a quarterfinal match Sunday. Game time at Klöckner Stadium is set for 1 p.m.

Tickets for the game are on sale now online at VirginiaSports.com and by through the Virginia Athletics Ticket Office. Tickets will also be on sale at the gate Sunday, beginning one hour prior to game time.

Tickets for the game are $8 for adult general admission and $5 for youth, senior and faculty/staff general admission. Students from all ACC schools receive free general admission entry with a valid student ID.

The Cavaliers (19-0, 13-0) completed an undefeated and untied regular season with a 2-0 victory over No. 5 Virginia Tech on Thursday. Virginia is looking to be the first top-seed to win the ACC Tournament since North Carolina in 2008. The defending ACC Champion, the Cavaliers aim to be the first team to win consecutive titles since the Tar Heels in 2008 and 2009.

Maryland enters their final ACC Tournament before heading to the Big Ten as the No. 8 seed after going 10-9 overall and 6-7 in the league.

Sunday’s game marks the third straight year the teams have met in the ACC Tournament. In 2011, the Cavaliers topped the Terrapins 2-0 in a quarterfinal match at Klöckner Stadium. Last year, Virginia posted a 4-0 victory over Maryland in the ACC Final in Cary. N.C.

The winners of Sunday’s four quarterfinal games will advance to the semifinals, held Friday, Nov. 8 at WakeMed Soccer Park in Cary, N.C. The Virginia-Maryland winner will play the Virginia Tech-Notre Dame winner in the first semifinal at 5:30 p.m., which will air on ESPN3. The championship match is Sunday, Nov. 8, at 4 p.m., and will air on ESPNU.
