The Cavaliers (19-0, 13-0 ACC) are the No. 1 seed for the ACC Tournament after becoming the first team in seven years to post a perfect league record. Virginia is looking to be the first top-seed to win the ACC Tournament since North Carolina in 2008. The defending ACC Champion, the Cavaliers aim to be the first team to win consecutive titles since the Tar Heels in 2008 and 2009.

Virginia is its seventh week as the nation’s consensus No. 1 team and is the first team to post a perfect regular season record since Stanford in 2009. The Cavaliers lead the nation in goals with 59 this season and are the only team in the nation to have three double-digit goal scorers. Sophomore forwards Makenzy Doniak (Chino Hills, Calif.) and Brittany Ratcliffe (Williamstown, N.J.) have 14 and 11 goals respectively. Junior midfielder Morgan Brian (St. Simons Island, Ga.) has 10 goals and leads the ACC with 12 assists. Virginia’s defense leads the ACC with a 0.46 goals against average and has posted shutouts in eight of the last nine games.

The Cavaliers are coming off a 2-0 overtime victory over No. 5 Virginia Tech Thursday in the regular season finale. Amber Fry (Northfield, Ill.), who got the start on Senior Day, and Doniak scored for Virginia, who recorded its fourth top-five win of the season.

The Terrapins (10-9, 6-7 ACC) enter their final ACC Tournament as the No. 8 seed. Maryland is coming off a 3-1 victory over Pittsburgh Thursday in College Park that secured their place in the tournament.

Virginia leads the all-time series 28-5-4, including a 14-0-1 mark in Charlottesville. The Cavaliers won this year’s regular season meeting 1-0 on Sept. 29 at Klöckner Stadium, as the Terrapins are one of only two teams (Florida State) to hold Virginia to a single goal this season. The Cavaliers’ 28 wins over Maryland are their most against any opponent.

Sunday’s game marks the third straight year the teams have met in the ACC Tournament. In 2011, the Cavaliers topped the Terrapins 2-0 in a quarterfinal match at Klöckner Stadium. Last year, Virginia posted a 4-0 victory over Maryland in the ACC Final in Cary. N.C.

The winners of Sunday’s four quarterfinal games will advance to the semifinals, held Friday, Nov. 8 at WakeMed Soccer Park in Cary, N.C. The Virginia-Maryland winner will play the Virginia Tech-Notre Dame winner in the first semifinal at 5:30 p.m., which will air on ESPN3. The championship match is Sunday, Nov. 8, at 4 p.m., and will air on ESPNU.
