CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va.—The Virginia volleyball team dropped a close four-set match to No. 18 Florida State, 25-22, 27-29, 25-21 and 25-21, Friday night (Nov. 8) at Memorial Gymnasium. The loss snapped a four-match win streak for the Cavaliers (14-11, 7-6), while FSU improved to 18-6 (11-2 ACC).
Junior Tori Janowski (Sterling, Va.) earned a match-high 21 kills, while sophomore Natalie Bausback (Carlsbad, Calif.) and freshman Jasmine Burton (White Hills, Calif.) each earned 12 kills.
The first set was tied, 20-20, before the Seminoles earned five out of the next seven points to win, 25-22.
In the second set, both teams had set points before the Cavaliers claimed the set, 29-27, on kills from freshmen Haley Kole (Tallahassee, Fla.) and Burton.
The Cavaliers held an 18-12 advantage in the third before the Seminoles went on a 13-3 run to win, 25-21.
In the fourth, UVa jumped out to a 9-4 lead, but could not hold on as FSU hit .394 in the frame and was victorious, 25-21.
Izzy Carmona led the Seminoles with 18 kills on .429 hitting.
The Cavaliers return to action Saturday (Nov. 9) when they host Miami at 7 p.m. at Memorial Gymnasium.
