Three Virginia Field Hockey Players Earn All-Region Honors

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – Virginia senior Elly Buckley was named to the 2013 Longstreth / NFHCA Division I South All-Region First Team with senior Carissa Vittese and freshman Lucy Hyams earning second-team honors.
This is the fourth all-region first-team honor for Buckley (Scraborough, Perth, Australia). The three-time All-American is also one of just 11 players in conference history to earn All-ACC honors four times.
Buckley leads the ACC in shots (140), shots per game (6.67), points (49), points per game (2.33), goals (20), goals per game (0.95) and defensive saves (6).Buckley finished her Virginia career ranked third on the Cavalier career points list with 182 points, fourth in career goals with 73, seventh in career assists with 36 and fourth in career defensive saves with 11.
This is the second-straight year Vittese (Cherry Hill, N.J.) has earned second-team all-region honors. The Cavaliers’ defensive sweeper helped to lead Virginia to six shutouts this season. Vittese made the game-deciding shot in the sudden-death penalty shot in the 2-1 victory over Richmond (Sept. 11).
Hyams (Whitstable, Kent, England), the ACC Freshman of the Year and a Second-Team All-ACC selection, had 11 assists this season, ranking her fifth in the conference, the only freshman ranked in the top-10 in the ACC in assists. Hyams finished her rookie campaign with five goals, giving her 21 points.
The 2013 Longstreth / NFHCA Division I All-America Teams will be announced on December 2nd.
