Brian and Doniak Named Hermann Trophy Semifinalists

CHARLOTTESVILLE – Virginia junior midfielder Morgan Brian (St. Simons Island, Ga.) and sophomore forward Makenzy Doniak (Chino Hills, Calif.) were named semifinalists for the 2013 Missouri Athletic Club’s Hermann Trophy, the most prestigious individual award in college soccer. The Cavaliers are the only team to have two of the 15 candidates announced Tuesday by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America.
Brian is the leading scorer in the ACC with 46 points on 16 goals and a league-high 14 assists. She has tied the Virginia single-season assist record and is one point shy of the single-season point record. Brian has scored in all four of the Cavaliers’ NCAA Tournament victories to lead the team to its first College Cup appearance in 22 years. Brian, who was also a Hermann Trophy semifinalist in 2011, was a first-team All-ACC selection for the third consecutive season. She has also made three appearances for the United States Women’s National Team this year, scoring her first international goal on Sept. 3 against Mexico.
Doniak ranks second in the ACC in scoring with 44 points on 19 goals and six assists. She is one goal shy of the Virginia single-season goal record and three points shy of the single-season points record. A first-team All-ACC honoree, she leads the team with six game-winning goals, including two in the NCAA Tournament.

The three finalists for the award will be announced on December 12. The winners will be announced at the awards banquet at the Missouri Athletic Club in St. Louis on January 10.
The Cavaliers will play UCLA on Friday in the semifinals of the 2013 NCAA Women’s College Cup. Game time is 7:30 p.m. at the WakeMed Soccer Park in Cary, N.C., and the game will be televised live on ESPNU.
