CHARLOTTESVILLE – The Virginia women’s soccer team had five players honored Tuesday by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) as All-Southeast Region selections. The Cavaliers had four players named to the first team, one to the second team in addition to Steve Swanson, who was named NSCAA Southeast Region Coach of the Year.

Junior midfielder Morgan Brian (St. Simons Island, Ga.), junior midfielder Danielle Colaprico (Freehold, N.J.), sophomore forward Makenzy Doniak (Chino Hills, Calif.) and sophomore defender Emily Sonnett (Marietta, Ga.) were named to the first team as Virginia led all schools with four selections. In addition, senior defender Molly Menchel (Alexandria, Va.) was named to the second team.

Brian and Doniak, who were also named Hermann Trophy semifinalists Tuesday, are the top two scorers in the ACC with 46 and 44 points, respectively. They were both first-team All-ACC selections this season, as was Sonnett. Colaprico, who was a second-team All-ACC honoree, ranks second in the ACC with 13 assists. Menchel was a third-team All-ACC selection and scored the game-winning goal in Virginia’s NCAA quarterfinal victory over Michigan.

Swanson was named NSCAA Southeast Region Coach of the Year for the first time. He also was honored as the 2013 ACC Coach of the Year.

The Cavaliers will play UCLA on Friday in the semifinals of the 2013 NCAA Women’s College Cup. Game time is 7:30 p.m. at the WakeMed Soccer Park in Cary, N.C., and the game will be televised live on ESPNU.
