CHARLOTTESVILLE – Virginia assistant coach Kerry Dziczkaniec received the Glenn “Mooch” Myernick National Women’s Assistant Coach of the Year award the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) announced last week.

Dziczkaniec, who was also named the NSCAA Southeast Region Assistant Coach of the Year, helped the Cavaliers go 24-1-1 this season and make their first trip to the NCAA Women’s College Cup in 22 years. Virginia set school records with 24 wins, 78 goals and 16 shutouts in 2013 and won the ACC regular season title.

“Everyone associated with the our program is very excited about Kerry D. being named the NSCAA’s National Assistant Coach of the Year,” said head coach Steve Swanson. “Not only is she an outstanding coach, but she is an even better person who has earned the respect of all our players.

“Behind every successful program there are people that perform duties and responsibilities that often go unnoticed, but nevertheless are integral to the overall success of the team,” added Swanson. “Kerry has done an amazing job fulfilling these responsibilities in addition to helping develop our players on the field and in the classroom. She is an outstanding coach, a great leader and is the ultimate team player. I cannot think of a more deserving coach and I am very happy that the NSCAA selected her for this prestigious honor.”

John Deeley of Connecticut was the 2013 recipient of the Glenn “Mooch” Myernick National Men’s Assistant Coach of the Year award. The NSCAA named the National Assistant Coach of the Year awards for Myernick in 2007. Myernick, who passed away in 2006, was a former U.S. National Team player who went to on to coach for over 20 years in college, MLS and with the U.S. National Team program.
