GREENSBORO, N.C.—Virginia freshman swimmer Leah Smith has been named the Atlantic Coast Conference Female Swimmer of the Week, the conference announced Tuesday (Jan. 21).

Smith, a native of Pittsburgh, Pa., picked up three individual wins against Virginia Tech, Wisconsin and Miami last weekend in Christiansburg, Pa. On Friday (Jan. 17), Smith won the 1,650 free in a time of 16:17.84, over 37 seconds faster than second place.

On Saturday (Jan. 18), Smith touched first in the 200 free (1:48.63) and the 500 free (4:48.70), defeating the rest of the field by almost three and six seconds, respectively. Smith was also a part of the first-place 800 free relay (7:25.03) and the second-place 400 free relay (3:24.71).

This is Smith’s first weekly conference award and the Cavaliers’ second this season. Sophomore Courtney Bartholomew (Holland, Mich.) earned ACC Female Swimmer of the Week honors on Nov. 26 for her performance at the Ohio State Invitational in Columbus, Ohio.
