GREENSBORO, N.C.—Virginia junior swimmer Ellen Williamson has been named the Atlantic Coast Conference Female Swimmer of the Week, the conference announced Tuesday (Jan. 28).

A native of Ft. Mitchell, Ky., Williamson helped lead the No. 9 Cavalier women to a come-from-behind victory over conference rival and seventh-ranked North Carolina, 152-146, on Saturday (Jan. 25). Williamson won both the 100 fly (54.09) and 200 IM (1:59.88), the final two individual swimming events to spur on UVa to the win. She also finished third in the 200 fly in 2:01.09.

In Virginia’s 187.5-98.5 win on Friday (Jan. 24) against Duke, the junior picked up a win in the 200 back in 2:00.29.

This is the second consecutive ACC Female Swimmer of the Week honor for the Cavaliers and third overall of the season. Freshman Leah Smith (Pittsburgh, Pa.) was honored last week for her efforts against Virginia Tech, Wisconsin and Miami and sophomore Courtney Bartholomew (Holland, Mich.) was recognized in the fall for her performance at the Ohio State Invitational.

The Cavaliers return to action this weekend, when they travel to NC State on Saturday (Feb. 1) for a meet that is slated for a 3 p.m. start.
