GREENSBORO, N.C.—Sophomore Virginia swimmer Courtney Bartholomew was named Atlantic Coast Conference Female Swimmer of the Week, the conference announced Tuesday (Feb. 4).

A native of Holland, Mich., Bartholomew helped lead the No. 7 Cavalier women to a 178.5-115.5 win at No. 21 NC State with two individual event wins. The sophomore first won the 100 backstroke in 53.54 before touching first in the 200 back in 1:56.48, over 3.5 seconds faster than second place. She also was a part of the 200 medley (1:40.82) and 200 free relays (1:33.07) that placed second.

This is the Cavaliers’ third consecutive ACC Female Swimmer of the Week honor and fourth overall this season. Junior Ellen Williamson (Ft. Mitchell, Ky.) was honored last week for her efforts against North Carolina and Duke, while freshman Leah Smith (Pittsburgh, Pa.) was recognized on Jan. 21 for her performance against Virginia Tech, Wisconsin and Miami.

Bartholomew was honored in the fall for her efforts at the Ohio State Invitational. She now has two weekly awards this season and three for her career.

The Cavaliers return to action this weekend when they host Pitt on Feb. 8 at the AFC. Diving action will commence at 9:30 a.m., with swimming scheduled to start at 12:30 p.m. Virginia’s 20 seniors will be honored in a ceremony in between the diving and swimming at noon.
