CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. –The Virginia women’s basketball team (12-10, 5-4 ACC) will take on Boston College (11-12, 2-7 ACC) on Thursday, Feb. 6 at 7 p.m. in Chestnut Hill, Mass.
The game will be carried on the radio on WINA- 1070 AM with Channing Poole and Larry Johnson calling the action.
Virginia owns an 11-4 record all-time against Boston College, but BC has won each of the last two meetings, handing Virginia a 61-49 road loss last season on Valentine’s Day and a 66-57 loss in the first round of the 2013 ACC Tournament.
Since earning a 63-62 upset over Miami on Jan. 16, Boston College has dropped five straight games, including falling 70-63 in overtime at Virginia Tech in overtime on Sunday. The Eagles, who put together a seven-game winning streak earlier this season, have lost seven of their last eight games.
Virginia has won four of its last five games, including a pair of victories over ranked teams and Sunday’s decisive 80-43 victory over Clemson. The 37-point margin of victory was the largest of the season for Virginia and its largest over an ACC opponent since defeating Florida State 81-40 on Feb. 16, 1996.
Virginia forced 22 Clemson turnovers, scoring 33 points off the miscues, while only turning the ball over nine times. Virginia now leads the ACC in turnover margin, averaging 14.9 turnovers per game while forcing 20.3 (+5.5).
Three Cavalier players now pace the conference in statistical categories. Senior guard Lexie Gerson (Fort Washington, Pa.) had a pair of steals against Clemson, moving her into the conference lead with 59 this season and a 2.7 per-game average, which ranks No. 25 nationally. Gerson, who had four assists with no turnovers against the Tigers, has an ACC-topping 3.4 assist-to-turnover ratio in conference games this season. Gerson only has one turnover in the last four games and owns 20 assists with three turnovers in the last five games.
On the offensive end, Gerson has made at least one three-pointer in each of the last six games and was the only Cavalier to connect from beyond the arc at Wake Forest last Thursday. She was 2-for-2 from three-point range against Clemson.
Senior guard Kelsey Wolfe (Germantown, Md.) went 6-of-6 from the free throw line at Wake Forest, moving her into the conference lead in free throw shooting. Wolfe, who did not go to the line against Clemson, is shooting 90.6 percent from the stripe this year, ranking No. 11 nationally. In conference games, Wolfe only has one miss, going 30-of-31 (96.8 percent), and has made her last 21 consecutive attempts.
Wolfe, who is shooting 47.6 percent from the field in ACC contests, has scored in double figures in each of the last four games, amassing 70 points with 12 assists and 17 rebounds.
Junior center Sarah Imovbioh (Abuja, Nigeria), who just missed logging double-doubles in each of the last two games with nine points and 10 rebounds at Wake and 11 points and nine rebounds against Clemson, leads the ACC with 4.3 offensive rebounds per game, a mark that improves to 5.0 against conference foes. Imovbioh is sixth in the ACC in total rebounds per game at 8.5. She is also 10th in the conference in field goal percentage, making 54.9 percent of her shots.
Senior guard Ataira Franklin (Bowie, Md.) had her fifth 20-point performance of the season against Clemson, going 6-of-11 and 3-of-4 from three-point range. In the last five games, four different Cavaliers have posted 20-point performances (Faith Randolph 26 vs Florida State; Wolfe 24 vs Maryland; Imovbioh 21 at Syracuse; Franklin 20 vs. Clemson).
After Boston College, Virginia has its bye weekend and will not play again until Thursday, Feb. 13 against Georgia Tech in Atlanta, Ga. The Cavaliers return home on Sunday, Feb. 16 when they host Virginia Tech at 2 p.m., one of three remaining home games in the regular season. The Sunday, Feb. 16 contest against Virginia Tech will be the Cavaliers’ annual Play4Kay Game in which both teams will be wearing pink jerseys. Fans are also encouraged to wear pink to the game that day.

Family Packages are available for $11 each and include a reserved ticket and a concessions voucher valued at $8. A minimum of four tickets must be purchased to receive package pricing.
