GREENSBORO, N.C.—Virginia junior diver JB Kolod and freshman swimmer Leah Smith have been named ACC Male Diver and Female Swimmer of the Week, respectively, the conference announced Tuesday (Feb. 11).

Kolod (Pittsburgh, Pa.) won both the men’s 1-meter and 3-meter diving events Saturday (Feb. 8) against Pittsburgh. On the 3-meter boards, the junior broke his own Virginia school and Aquatic and Fitness Center pool record with a score of 428.10, while also earning a score of 379.73 on the 1-meter boards.

A native of Pittsburgh, Pa., Smith won the women’s 1,000 free in a UVa and AFC record of 9:33.29, ahead of the previous record set by two-time NCAA Champion Cara Lane in 2001 (9:36.35). Smith also holds the school record in the 500 free (4:36.19) and is second all-time at UVa in the 1,650 free (15:57.44).

This is the Cavaliers’ fourth consecutive ACC Female Swimmer of the Week honor, the program’s sixth weekly award overall and Smith’s second accolade after earning the award on Jan. 21 for her marks against Virginia Tech, Wisconsin and Miami.

Sophomore Courtney Bartholomew (Holland, Mich.) was recognized twice, including last week and in the fall for her performances against NC State and at the Ohio State Invitational, respectively. Junior Ellen Williamson (Ft. Mitchell, Ky.) was honored on Jan. 28 for her efforts against North Carolina and Duke.

This is Kolod’s first weekly honor this season and his second weekly honor of his career.

Next up, some of Virginia’s squads will compete at the Cavalier Invite Feb. 14-15 at the AFC, while both ACC Championships will be held in Greensboro, N.C. The women’s meet will be held Feb. 19-22, while the men’s meet is the following week Feb. 26-March 1.
