Four Cavaliers Named to ACC All-Academic Women's Soccer Team

CHARLOTTESVILLE – Four members of the Virginia women’s soccer team were named to the 2013 All-ACC Academic Women’s Soccer team, tying the most selections in school history. Junior midfielders Morgan Brian (St. Simons Island, Ga.) and Danielle Colaprico (Freehold, N.J.), sophomore forward Makenzy Doniak (Chino Hills, Calif.) and senior defender Molly Menchel (Alexandria, Va.) were honored for their work in the classroom and on the field.

Brian, who was the 2013 MAC Hermann Trophy winner and Soccer America National Player of the Year, was honored for the second straight season. She tied for the ACC scoring lead this season with 46 points on 16 goals and a league-high 14 assists. A first-team NSCAA All-American, she tied the Virginia single-season assist record. Brian has also made five appearances for the United States Women’s National Team, scoring two goals in those contests.

Colaprico, who was honored for the second consecutive season, started 24-of-26 games for the Cavaliers, posting five goals and 13 assists. A first-team NSCAA Scholar All-American, she earned third-team NSCAA All-America honors and was a second-team All-ACC selection this season.

Doniak was also named to the team for the second consecutive year. She tied teammate Morgan Brian for the ACC scoring lead with 46 points on 20 goals and six assists. Her 20 goals tied the Virginia single-season record. She was a first-team NSCAA All-American, a first-team Soccer America MVP and a first-team All-ACC selection.

Menchel, who was recently selected by the Washington Spirit in the NWSL draft, was honored for the second time. She was a second-team NSCAA Scholar All-American, a second-team NSCAA All-Southeast Region honoree and a third-team All-ACC selection.

To be eligible for consideration, a student-athlete must have earned a 3.00 grade point average for the previous semester and maintained a 3.00 cumulative grade point average during her academic career.
